Overview
The magnetic closure box earns its place through one moment: the lid drops the last few millimetres by itself and closes with a click. That sound is why the format dominates premium gifting — it signals quality before the buyer has read a word of the packaging.
Mechanically it is a hinged-lid rigid box with magnets set into the front edge of the lid and the base wall, concealed beneath the wrap so nothing is visible from outside. Magnet strength is a specification decision: too weak and the lid drifts open in transit, too strong and the box is awkward to open one-handed. We set it against the weight of the lid and how the product will be handled at retail.
It is also the structure most often specified as collapsible — shipped flat and assembled without adhesive, which cuts freight volume significantly on export programmes while keeping the closure and the finish identical.
Variants
Standard Hinged Magnetic Box
The default: a one-piece hinged lid with two or four magnets, wrapped and rigid, shipped assembled.
Collapsible Magnetic Box
Ships flat and folds up without adhesive. Same closure and finish, materially less freight volume on export runs.
Magnetic Box with Ribbon Pull
A ribbon set into the lid edge, useful when the lid is heavy or the fit is deliberately tight.

Frequently asked questions
How strong should the magnets be?
Strong enough that the lid stays shut in transit, light enough to open with one hand. We set it against lid weight and how the box is handled at retail, and it is one of the things worth checking on the physical sample rather than specifying on paper.
Can a magnetic box ship flat?
Yes — the collapsible version folds up without adhesive and gives the same closure and finish. It costs a little more per unit and usually saves considerably more than that in freight, so it is worth quoting both ways on an export programme.
Are the magnets visible?
No. They are set into the board and covered by the wrap, so the outside surface is unbroken. On very thin board a magnet can occasionally telegraph through a pale wrap — we check this at sampling and step up the board or the wrap if it shows.
Magnetic closure or lid and base: which should we choose?
Choose magnetic when the box will be opened and closed again and again, at a counter or by a recipient who keeps it, or when it has to ship flat: the collapsible version folds up without adhesive. A lid and base box has no hardware and no hinge, so it usually costs less and stacks efficiently, but in its usual construction it is formed and wrapped before it ships. If the pack should stand on a shelf or carry a story inside the cover, compare the book-style box.
What should we send for a magnetic box quote?
The product, or its dimensions and weight (the weight and the opening feel you want decide the board thickness); how the box will be handled, which, with the lid weight, sets the magnet strength; whether it ships assembled or flat (on an export programme, ask for both); any fitted insert; the wrap and finishes, or the look you are after; two or three quantities; and the destination country. The magnet strength is then checked on the physical sample rather than set on paper.
