Overview

Food and beverage packaging runs on a calendar. Mid-Autumn, Spring Festival, Christmas and harvest launches land on dates that do not move, so the real constraint is rarely the design — it is whether the specification can be sampled, approved, produced and shipped before a window that closes whether you are ready or not.

Mooncake and festival gift boxes are annual work for our gift box line, and the portfolio shows it. Those programmes need divided trays that hold portions in place, surfaces that survive months in storage before a short selling season, and enough production capacity in a compressed window.

For anything in direct or near contact with food, our ISO 22000 food-safety certification governs the carton side of that work. Craft beverage brands additionally need labels specified for chilled and condensation exposure — the same discipline as our wine and spirits work, applied to smaller runs.

What to get right in this sector

Food-contact specification

Board and inks specified for the contact level involved. Our ISO 22000 certification governs the food-grade side of carton production.

The calendar is the constraint

Sampling 5–7 working days, production 15–30 working days, then freight. Work backwards from the on-shelf date, not forwards from today.

Storage before selling

Festival stock often sits for months before a short selling season. Lamination and board choice are specified for storage, not just for the shelf.

Portion fit

Divided trays have to hold portions still in transit and present them square on opening — decided on a loaded sample.

Recyclability

FSC-certified and recycled board, water-based inks and paper-based fitments in place of foam where the brief calls for it.

Terms for this specification

Sampling
Presentation-quality sample in 5–7 working days. The sample cost is credited against your first approved production order.
Colour matching
Pantone references and physical samples are used where the selected print process supports them. The approval method follows the substrate, artwork and process.
Certifications
ISO 9001, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001 and China Environmental Labelling (Ten-Ring). ISO 22000 applies to eligible food-contact work.

What drives the cost

We do not publish a price list, because no two specifications are alike. The levers that decide a quote are consistent, though.

Quantity

Most of the cost of a print job is set-up — plates, dies, make-ready, the first good sheet. Doubling a run rarely doubles the price, which is why it is worth asking for two or three volumes on the same quote.

Structure

A rigid box is formed, wrapped and often assembled by hand; a folding carton is die-cut and glued in one pass. Structure is usually the single biggest difference between two otherwise identical packs.

Material

Board grade and wrap stock. Specialty and textured papers cost more per sheet, but can replace a finishing pass — sometimes the cheaper route to the same effect.

Finishing passes

Each of foil, emboss, spot UV and lamination is a separate pass through a machine. Two effects cost roughly twice one, so the question is always which effect earns its place.

Tooling

Dies, emboss plates and foil blocks are one-off costs carried by the first order and reused on every repeat. Repeat runs of an approved specification are materially cheaper than the first.

Design & artwork

From an artwork check, through a dimensioned dieline and print-ready files, to a full concept package across a range — done by the factory that will make it.

Frequently asked questions

When should a festival programme start?

Work backwards from the on-shelf date. Sampling takes 5–7 working days and often iterates, complex gift boxes need 25–30 working days in production, then add freight. Festival work also competes for capacity industry-wide, so confirming early buys options rather than just time.

Are your cartons suitable for food contact?

We hold ISO 22000 food-safety certification, which governs the food-grade side of our carton production. The right board and ink specification depends on the contact level and the destination market, so tell us the product and where it sells.

Can you make the tray that holds the portions?

Yes. Divided trays and paper-based fitments are cut to your product so portions stay still in transit and present square on opening. Send the product or a dimensional drawing and the tray is developed alongside the box at sampling stage.
