Overview
A bottle tube is proportioned around a single vessel rather than a generic cylinder. Its job is to keep the bottle presented centrally, prevent movement inside the pack and give a tall, uninterrupted surface for the printed wrap.
The vessel itself drives the structural work. The body profile, closure and base all affect where a collar or cradle can support it, so development should use the actual bottle or reliable dimensional information and finish with a loaded sample rather than an empty tube.
A bottle tube is usually a lid and base construction stretched to the height of the bottle, with the support built inside it. The body is a tall wound tube closed at the base; inside, a collar at the shoulder, a cradle under the bottle or a spacer around the neck holds the vessel on the centre line. The lid then closes over the body or over a neck collar.

Identify where the bottle can be held without loading a decorative closure or allowing the body to move against the tube.
Opening and presentation
Choose the lid action and how much of the bottle should be revealed or lifted into view when the tube opens.
Getting the bottle out
Decide how the bottle is lifted from a narrow tube, for example by finger clearance at the neck or a ribbon pull beneath it, and check it with the real bottle.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the wrap seam go on a bottle tube?
The wrap meets itself in one vertical seam that runs the full height of the tube, and on a tall pack it is easy to see. It is usually placed at the back or under a vertical element of the design, and the artwork is drawn so colours and patterns meet cleanly across it. Its position is fixed on the dieline before the artwork is finalised.
What do you need to develop a bottle tube?
The actual bottle is preferable. Otherwise provide dependable overall dimensions, the bottle profile and closure information, together with the intended presentation and shipping context.
How is the height of a bottle tube worked out?
From the bottle, plus the support beneath it and a small clearance above the closure, so the lid never presses on a stopper, capsule or wax seal. The allowance depends on the support used and the shape of the closure, so it is set from the real bottle rather than its catalogue height, and checked when the loaded sample is closed.
Is a bottle tube an alternative to a rigid gift box?
It can be, and it is the lighter of the two. A tube suits a single bottle and an upright, cylindrical presentation, with the bottle held by a collar or cradle inside; laid on its side, it will roll. A rigid box gives flat faces, a hinged or lift-off lid and room for more items. Choose from the presentation you want and what goes in the pack, then sample the chosen format with the bottle.
