Overview
A die-cut handle is formed directly in the reinforced top fold of the paper bag. With no separate cord or ribbon, the bag keeps a clean profile and remains compact when supplied flat.
The opening has to work for both the hand and the product load. Its shape and position are reviewed together with the bag width, top fold and intended contents so the visual cut-out does not become an uncomfortable or weak point.
Here the handle is part of the bag body. The top of the bag is folded over to double the paper, and the opening is cut through both layers so the hand bears on a thicker edge; a reinforcing strip can be glued inside the fold to stiffen the area around the cut. Because nothing is attached afterwards, the bag lies flatter in the carton and nothing stands above the top edge, but the opening also takes away part of the printable area near the top.

Frequently asked questions
Why choose a die-cut handle instead of rope or ribbon?
A die-cut handle removes the separate handle component and gives the bag a flatter, cleaner profile. It is most useful when compact packing and a simple silhouette matter more than a soft handle detail.
How do we confirm whether the opening is comfortable?
Judge it on a made-up sample loaded with the intended product. A flat dieline can confirm geometry, but it cannot reproduce how the top edge feels and moves in use.
Does a die-cut handle reduce how much the bag can carry?
Compared with an attached rope or ribbon handle, usually yes. The hand bears directly on the doubled paper edge around the opening, so die-cut handles are chosen for lighter contents, and heavier or hard-cornered loads usually move to an attached handle. How much a given bag carries depends on the paper, the depth of the top fold and any reinforcing strip, and is tested with the real product in the made-up sample.
Are our logo and the product size enough to start a die-cut bag quote?
It is enough to start the conversation. For an accurate price, add what the bag will hold and its weight, the outer size you have in mind and the quantity per order, and mark where the logo should sit. If the bag has to fit a particular shipping carton or display, include those limits so the flat size can be checked at the dieline stage. Say which country the bags are delivered to and, for the EU or the UK, whether you want DDP or DAP.
